United sit on someone's lap to save
Why would I need personal space?
Next weekend I have to travel for work. The week after I’m going on a staycation for Thanksgiving. The week after that, my team is going on a retreat. It’ll be a busy few weeks, and unlike large companies, when you run your own show, you don’t get much time off (if any at all).
I’m increasingly aware of and thankful for how awesome the people around me are. My team is talented and they work hard. Thankfully, we’ve clawed back some work-life balance after several gnarly months, and I’m cautiously optimistic it will continue to improve.
Unfortunately, this doesn’t make work travel any less grueling. Time changes, unfamiliar living quarters, and missing family. Flying’s the worst part.
Not only is flying uncomfortable, it’s expensive. But what if there was a way to save by sitting on someone’s lap for a flight?
There are a million reasons this doesn’t work. However, airlines are starting to experiment with stacked seating, which feels like it’s a degree away from this. It’s crazy that you used to be able to fly in an easy chair, chew on a cigar, and eat a steak dinner while flying. Now you get screamed at by toddlers and maybe a Biscoff cookie if you’re lucky.
The times, they are a-changin’.
