Vanguard breathing exercise
Because looking at your portfolio is scary

The last few weeks have been brutal for the stock market. There’s talk of a recession, and the market's volatility is hard for even the most seasoned investors to cope with. I’ve been a “set it and forget it” investor for a few years now, and current events are validating my desire to invest without getting hung up on daily price swings (not investing advice, not a recommendation).
However, I am not immune to price swings. When you open your portfolio and things are down, it feels bad. This got me thinking… what if there was a feature within Vanguard or other investing apps where you had to go through a breathing exercise to view your portfolio?
This is slightly unhinged because it acknowledges adverse events/performance in an individual portfolio. Still, at the same time, I could see this being a very grounding experience for some people that might steer them away from reactionary trading behavior. Maybe a version of this should exist.
