Vanguard net worth leaderboard
Visualizing the game of life

People use many things to quantify their success. Some spend time with families, others build careers, and others still build the world’s largest Lego Star Wars collection (Idk, someone has to be doing this). I’ve definitely been guilty of prioritizing work heavily, especially in the past couple of years. That said, life is seasonal and your early 30s are a time where you can take big swings. I digress.
As people move through life, it’s easy to compare yourselves to others. Social media warps our perception of friends, family, celebrities, etc. Numbers are harder to fake. To that end, what if brokerage apps like Vanguard had a leaderboard feature that integrated with your contacts so you could see the net workth (or at least account balances) of friends?
This is a pretty big privacy concern, and most people would 1) not opt into this and 2) not use the app if there was no way to opt out. I could see a gen z platform trying to do this, but something like this likely does too much to erode the credibility of platforms like Vanguard for them to ship it.
