Venmo delinquent leaderboard

Venmo is such a fascinating product to me. For over a decade, I’ve had this weird, slightly invasive view into the daily financial activity of people I don’t know very well. Even though they’ve launched additional offerings like cards and crypto, it’s amazing to me how slowly this product seems to evolve. However, seeing how the insides of corporations work, I’m not necessarily surprised.

This got me thinking about the worst kind of Venmo users, people who never pay you back. What if there were a way to name and shame these people more publicly? I can imagine an experience where you can see the most delinquent and/or largest outstanding payments, with an option to call people to remind them to pay.

Since Venmo is largely peer-to-peer, this feels like a massive invasion of privacy. I don’t see a world where people buy into this idea, but at the same time, it could be a great way to motivate people to make timely payments.
