Venmo pay with organs

We’ve all been in a situation where we have to split the bill amongst friends. Someone forgets their wallet. They ask if they can Venmo you. You don’t really have a choice, so you oblige, knowing you will spend the next three months hunting them down over $43.17 because they are the worst at paying people back. It’s hard to tell if these people 1) can’t afford to pay you back 2) are just forgetful or 3) get some sort of sick pleasure out of forcing other people to pay for them.

If people truly can’t afford to pay you back, there have to be options that make this process easier. Yes, Venmo could offer a lending product, but that doesn’t seem extreme enough. What if you could sell your organs through the platform to pay the people you owe back?

Yes, this is egregiously unethical (also illegal), but it would create a way to provide cash for people who are strapped and can’t pay you back. Reflecting on this further, I believe Venmo missed an opportunity to build a gig economy platform. You could imagine people signing up for DoorDash or Uber to make the money to pay someone back. Yes, it’s dystopian, but it also makes sense…
