Workday bid on deceased coworkers PTO
They won't be using it

I’ve worked at multiple companies with PTO policies. I’ve also worked at places with unlimited PTO. I’m a sicko so no matter where I work I find my problem is not taking enough vacation. How American of me. Now I run my own company and we offer unlimited PTO and encourage people to use it.
America generally does a bad job of incentivizing people to take time away from work. This starkly contrasts with many other countries that do a much better job emphasizing the important work/life balance. This got me thinking about the people who will inevitably pass away with a significant amount of accrued PTO.
What if there was a feature on platforms like Workday where you could bid on the PTO of deceased coworkers? On one hand, this is very, very dark. On the other, it’s a decent solution to something that would feasibly happen. However, companies are just going to write off the PTO rather than redistribute it.
It’d be nice if other people could get the PTO, but that’s really not how the world works.
