Workday wellness check

How are you feeling?

One of the things you take for granted as a W2 employee is sick days (or just time off in general). If you feel under the weather, you can take time off and recover. If you run your own business, you don’t get this luxury. Instead, you have to deal with the fact that you’re sick and ensure everything that’s supposed to get done, still gets done.

I’ve been lucky since starting my own business not to get super sick… yet aggressively knocks on wood but I’m sure this day will come.

This got me thinking about Workday, the HR platform where I used to submit time off requests. Thankfully my company drew a distinction between time off and sick days (my managers were generally pretty chill about the latter), but what about the employers who are a little less forgiving? What if they had the option to conduct a wellness check when you said you were sick?

If this existed, employees who felt like they had a choice would likely leave en masse, as this feels like a massive invasion of privacy. However, most people don’t have a ton of options, and they’d likely be forced to deal with this insane policy.

I could see some (bad) managers and owners loving a feature like this when you don’t need it if you run your business effectively and have good employees.
