Yahoo Mail nuke inbox button
Serenity, now
In Seinfeld, there’s an episode where Costanza’s dad finds out he has high blood pressure. He uses the phrase “Serenity now” to get himself to calm down. Ironically, he yells it, defeating the purpose.
I’ve always been a fan of Seinfeld and have been trying to fit this idea into a concept for a while. Recently, I partnered with Yahoo on some unhinged work (more to come in the months ahead).
As I explored the Yahoo Mail product, I thought about all the people who have inboxes with thousands of unread emails. I don’t know about you, but I hate not getting to inbox zero, it stresses me out. This got me thinking about a feature with a “Serenity Now!” button that clears your inbox. This would help the less neurotic emailers who need help clearing things out.
This would be great on a few levels. 1) there’s real utility here for people who are stressed and need a hard reset on email and 2) it’s a great callback to an iconic moment in comedy. I’m not sure how they could realistically implement this, but if they did, it’d be fun.
