YouTube get paid by ad-maxxing
Deep fry your attention span

YouTube is an app I use just enough that the ads are inconvenient, but not enough that I want to pay for their Premium product. Would I say a lot of time in the long run? Yes. Am I irrationally being cheap even though I could afford the subscription and it’d probably be better for me in the long run? Also yes.
I digress, it’s frustrating to watch ads, but it’s also helpful to have a pulse on the ads consumers watch so that the content I make is relevant. Also, sometimes an ad speaks to me and I check out the product. Wild, I know.
This all got me thinking about how a user might never pay for YouTube’s product, but still make money, even if it’s a negligible amount. What if there were a ton of ads playing simultaneously so that both you and the creator were compensated for your time and attention?
This likely wouldn’t work because no reasonable person can fragment their attention this much, but if Google lowered their standards in terms of placement for ad buyers, this just might work. Zoomers would love it.
